A Clinical Study of Acute Appendicitis in Children


Abstract
A clinical study was done with 67 cases of acute appendicitis in children under the age of 15years, in each of whom operation was performed at Seoul Red Cross Hospital from January 1988 to December 1989.
@ES The following results were obtained.
@EN 1) The incidence was increased according to the age, but there was no seasonal difference.
2) The overall perforation rate was 9.0%.
3) The classical abdominal pain that is initially epigastric or periumbilical then localized to the RLQ was observed in 56.8%.
4) Fever(>38.0¡É) and leukocytosis(>20,000/§§) were found more freguently in perforated cases(83.3%, 66.7%) than in non-perforated ones(9.8%, 8.2%).
5) The average hospital stay was 6 days in non-perforated cases and 12 days in perforated ones.
